Future for Ukraine Foundation at the International Human Rights Conference "Decade 2014-2024. Reclaiming human rights. Preserving Democracy"

On December 5, Olena Nikolaienko, the president of the FFU in the USA, participated in the International Conference on Human Rights "Decade 2014-2024. Reclaiming human rights. Preserving Democracy".

The Future for Ukraine Foundation is a member of the Expert Council under the Representative of the Commissioner for Equal Rights and Freedoms, National Minorities, Political and Religious Views.

"Human rights are at the center of the process of reconstruction. The strength of Ukrainians is in the diversity of views, religion, in the fact that we are so different, but united by one goal, the victory of democracy, where a free person lives in a free country!", Olena Nikolaienko, the president of the FFU in the USA.

The event began with an online speech by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who called on partners to take an active stance on the release of Ukrainians from russian captivity. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, more than 53,868 people are currently missing in Ukraine under special circumstances. They include prisoners of war, civilians, and children.

The conference brought together more than 1000 participants from Ukraine and the world!

Participants and honored guests:

  • Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets
  • Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset
  • Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome

Also UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine, Christophoros Politis, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, UK UK Human Rights Ambassador Eleanor Sanders, and Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine Danielle Bell.

The conference featured panels that addressed the crisis in the global human rights system and ways to overcome it:

  • the importance of the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war;
  • the deportation of Ukrainian children by the aggressor country;
  • the release of representatives of the Crimean Tatars who have been detained on the territory of Ukraine's Crimea since 2014.

"Democracy is a choice that must be protected. The global evil continues to escalate despite all attempts to restrain it", Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

We were honored to join the event and draw the world's attention to the terrible consequences of human rights violations by the occupiers. Together we build a better and peaceful future!
