We are working to help as many of our heroes as possible return to active and full-fledged lives! This week, Dmytro Kolesnyk, who is already undergoing active rehabilitation in the United States, was joined by two more defenders who lost their limbs due to amputation — Artem Komisarchuk and Vasyl Stupar.
The men are now concentrating on training with physiotherapists. Dmytro is learning to walk on inclined surfaces and stairs, while Vasyl and Artem are getting to know the team of the MCOP clinic and training extensively under the supervision of specialists who take measurements for prostheses. Please read more in our digest.
Rehabilitation of Dmytro Kolesnyk: successes and new challenges
Dmytro Kolesnyk continues to work on mastering his prosthesis. His steps are becoming more confident, and his challenges on this path are getting harder. The defender is now training to walk on inclined surfaces and stairs.
In addition to active recovery, Dmytro has an intense cultural program. In particular, the defender visited a polling station in the United States, where he observed the election process. Afterwards, Dmytro attended his first Halloween party.
Another event that made a great impression on Dmytro was a concert by the band Okean Elzy. After the concert, the defender even met with the frontman and singer, Sviatoslav Vakarchuk. Their conversation ended with a warm embrace.
Artem Komisarchuk and Vasyl Stupar have arrived in the United States for the prosthetic program
This week, two other defenders who lost their limbs due to amputation, Artem Komisarchuk and Vasyl Stupar, have joined Dmytro. The soldiers were warmly welcomed at the airport by representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.
Firstly, the defenders met with the prosthetics team of the MCOP clinic. The specialists took their measurements and made casts of their future prostheses. The men tried on their first prosthetic cups and stump holders on the same day.
Then defenders focused on active training under the supervision of physiotherapists. Surely that is the key to quality recovery! Many new challenges are still ahead. However, we are sure that our defenders will easily overcome them, as they have such a strong motivation and spirit.
We are grateful to all those who support the Prosthetics of Ukrainians program, the MCOP clinic’s specialists, and the Pfizer Foundation for the grant which will allow us to provide more help for our defenders!
