A dark sensory relaxation room has opened in LEVCHYK SPECTRUM HUB

A sensory relaxation room is already open and helping children on the autism spectrum in the LEVCHYK SPECTRUM HUB! This room has become a haven where they feel comfortable and safe. It is best suited for relaxing and relieving tension from the nervous system of children with autism spectrum disorders.

The team and visitors of the Verholy Relax Park helped Future for Ukraine to create the dark sensory relaxation room. Throughout the summer of 2023, they raised funds to create a room in the hub. During this time, they managed to raise UAH 200,000!

The dark sensory room is a special relaxation room equipped with various stimulants that affect the child's senses (hearing, vision, vestibular system, tactile sensations). This room is effective in working with children on the autism spectrum in the following cases:

  • anxiety disorders;
  • neuroses;
  • delays in psychomotor development;
  • hyperactivity and some other disorders.

The room has limited light, excellent noise insulation, no sharp corners, soft walls, and floor — all of this reminds a child with ASD of when he or she was still in his or her mother's tummy, and therefore, it is safe and comfortable. There is also a pouf, a heavy blanket, a lantern that diffuses light, a generator of soothing sounds, and an aroma fountain.

"Here you can relax the child and stabilize the state of his or her central nervous system. It is possible to stimulate certain sensory systems with the help of lighting equipment, and vice versa, to relieve them. Both hypersensitive and hyposensitive children will feel comfortable here," says Liudmyla Mamalyha, a methodologist at LEVCHYK SPECTRUM HUB.

Our sincere thanks to Verholy Relax Park! From now on, kids on the autism spectrum will have another place where they will feel good and protected!
