Oleksandr Chaika received a leg prosthesis in Washington

Oleksandr Chaika received a leg prosthesis in Washington

10.10.2022

Future for Ukraine Foundation accompanies the military man from the first day and has taken over all the organizational expenses.

FFU started a prosthetics program for Ukrainian military personnel abroad. On September 29, the foundation team and Oleksandr and his wife arrived in Washington. Read how the events developed during these 10 days in our digest.

29.09 — 30.09
The owner of the Medical Center for Orthopedics and Prosthetics (MCOP), Michael Corcoran, personally treats Alexander.

30.09 — 01.10
In the first days, specialists created a form for the lumbar cup of the prosthesis. The first fitting took place.

03.10
Fitting for tailoring individual underwear under a prosthesis.
It is an important thing that ensures comfort during wearing.

04.10
A correspondent from the USA, David Martin, interviewed Alexander, his doctor, Michael, and FFU's COO, Elena Nikolaenko.
Sashko's story will be covered in detail in the big plot.
Thanks to CBS News producer Mary Walsh for the support from the first day in Washington!

05.10
Sashko took the first steps with a prosthesis.

We are proud to be a part of this touching moment.

06 — 07.10
Work with a rehabilitator.

Usual movements must be learned anew — now with the help of a prosthesis. This requires good physical training. Progress is recorded by a special application. It counts the number and length of steps, the strength of the load on the leg, and other indicators.

Without your active participation, organizing Sashko's trip to Washington would be impossible. Our partners Medical Center of Orthopedics and Prosthetics (MCOP) agreed to provide the prosthesis. As a foundation, with the help of donors, we take care of other essential things: flight for the team, escorting Olexander, his wife, and accompanying staff, Olexander's comfortable stay abroad, and providing for all his needs, as well as legal support for the entire process. This is the colossal daily work of a large team of people.

Everyone can become an angel of goodness for Ukrainians who suffered from the war. On our website, we have opened a collection for the next three patients who need prosthetics abroad. Only with your help, can we give our heroes a chance for a fulfilling life.
