Event description:

As a result of the war in Ukraine, the situation of Ukrainian children, and specifically, very vulnerable disabled children, unaccompanied children, and those separated from their families, is dire and continues to deteriorate. Some of the children remain in Ukraine and face war-related risks, including death, injury, hunger, neglect and abuse. Those leaving Ukraine also face several challenges, including the risk of being trafficked. There are concerns on the cross-border evacuation of Ukrainian children without adequate protection and safeguards. Furthermore, recent weeks have seen evidence of forced displacement of children into Russia.

Children should be at the heart of any humanitarian or other assistance for Ukraine. Particular attention must be paid to the most vulnerable groups of children who are unaccompanied, separated from their families, disabled or from children’s institutions.

Unfortunately, to this day, the international community has not identified a comprehensive action plan on how to address the dire situation of these children.

The speakers will explain the current situation of children in Ukraine, the gaps and solutions that support the most vulnerable groups of children.
