The second week of rehabilitation of Oleksandr Chaika in Washington

The second week of rehabilitation of Oleksandr Chaika in Washington

14.10.2022

The rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldier Oleksandr Chaika is going on in Washington. A series of meetings with our donors, American journalists, and politicians took place this week. More details are in our digest.

06.10
Oleksandr started to go to the gym. He is supported by his new friend Steve, who has the same prosthesis.

08.10
We visited an American football match at the invitation of sports reporter Donna Hopkins. Sashko cheers for the Washington Commanders team.
09.10

MCOP owner Michael Corcoran and his wife invited our team to dinner. We met some family friends who have Ukrainian roots.

10.10
We met with our donors.
Sashko is next to American veteran Mark Holbert. In 2011 during a combat mission, he was blown up and lost both legs, and his right arm was paralyzed. Despite this, Mark leads an active lifestyle, works, and even rides a motorcycle!

11.10
A meeting with US senators took place.

Chris Van Hollen is a Democratic politician and US Senator since 2017. Chris helped with the entry procedures for Sasha and Anna.

Tammy Duckworth is a U.S. veteran of Iraq who lost both legs and had partial sensation in her right arm as a result of an injury. She has been a Senator from Illinois since 2017.

It is extremely encouraging to know that they are worried about our victory.

"I wish that the war ends with your victory and that all Ukrainians can return home. I hope you will have the support you need all your life. Because the wounds caused by the war — physical, psychological and mental — are with you for life. We, as those who have already recovered, must take care of those who are now being treated for their wounds. So I want to give Oleksandr my energy, positive attitude, and love so that he can pass them on to another person who needs it," — Tammy Duckworth shared her words of support.

Working with a rehabilitation therapist. Under Farhad's guidance, Sashko is making progress every day.

This week, we got to know people who are examples of the true strength of spirit. They prove that the loss of limbs is not a sentence, and Olexandr will write the next happy pages of his life on his own.

Great things begin with care. We are collecting funds for three more patients who need prosthetics abroad. Make your contribution and give our heroes hope for recovery!
