The Metal Osteosynthesis program completely change people’s lives: The story of Ukrainian soldier Yevhen Tsarenko

The Future for Ukraine Foundation, with the support of Roc Maidan, a charitable organization of the Ukrainian diaspora in America, which provided the grant, could pay for the surgery to install a metal osteosynthesis system for Ukrainian soldier Yevhen Tsarenko. The assistance was provided as part of the Metal Osteosynthesis program.

Yevhen, who was injured in combat, shared how it happened. He also told us about his rehabilitation went and how he feels now.
A year ago, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Yevhen had no military experience. However, he had a strong desire to defend Ukraine's independence. So he joined the infantry as a machine gunner.

During one of the battles in a settlement, their group decided to retreat to a forest belt for the night. However, the enemy spotted the Ukrainian soldiers' hideout and launched a mortar attack. A shell exploded next to Yevhen and hit him in the thigh. For the first few minutes, the soldier thought he was dying. But then he realized that was only shot in the leg. After a while, medics arrived at the position and evacuated the wounded.

Yevhen Tsarenko had to undergo several surgeries, skin transplants, and the installation of a metal osteosynthesis system. Now he is undergoing rehabilitation at home and is developing his leg on his own.  

"I really want the war to end soon so that no one has to fight. I want no one to know what war is. That's why I plan to return to the Armed Forces of Ukraine after my recovery and contribute to its speedy end. The strength of the Ukrainian people is in our indomitable spirit. In our unity to go to the end for our common goal," Yevhen is sure.
