The recovery of Ukrainian women who have suffered from violence during the war is a complex process that takes time and incredible support. We are grateful to our United Nations Women's Guild - Geneva partners for helping women move on, rebuild their lives, and regain strength again within the Future for Ukraine Foundation’s GIDNA project.
In 2024, the United Nations Women's Guild - Geneva supported the project with a grant of 5 927,00 €. These funds provided free anonymous, qualified psychological assistance to women survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). Today it is a terrible weapon used by the enemy to break us physically and mentally.
The GIDNA project aims to provide psychological support to women to help them recover from their tragic experiences and build inner resilience. Thanks to the United Nations Women's Guild grant, GIDNA psychologists provided 142 individual psychological sessions to 13 women who have applied for help.
We see how, with the help of professionals, these women begin to talk about their experiences and take the first steps toward recovery despite their pain. Each session with a psychologist helps minimize the risk of developing PTSD. As a result of the psychological support provided by the GIDNA project, the women noticed that they slept better and felt less intrusive memories and thoughts.
Women in therapy in the framework of the GIDNA project are increasing their social skills. They reported wanting to build more social contacts which means more communication with relatives and friends. Women in relationships have begun to talk openly about their experiences with their partners, feeling their understanding and trust.
Through therapy, women affected by CRSV learned to take better care of themselves. Under the guidance of psychologists, they learned basic emotional self-regulation skills: breathing exercises, mindfulness, and body contact techniques that help them better understand their emotions and feelings.
We are incredibly proud of every Ukrainian woman who, despite her experience, chooses therapy and moves on with her life! We are grateful to everyone who supports the GIDNA project and gives a chance for Ukrainian women to trust themselves and the world again, including our reliable partners, the United Nations Women's Guild.
