First Ukrainian soldiers Vitaliy and Andriy completed an entire course of rehabilitation and prosthetics in Malta

Vitaliy Tarusin and Andriy Konovalov are the first Ukrainian servicemen who complete the Operation Renew Prosthetics rehabilitation program in Malta. In total, 24 Ukrainian heroes will undergo prosthetics and rehabilitation at Steward Health Care Malta during 2023 as part of this program.

It has been a great honor for the Future For Ukraine team to watch Vitaliy and Andriy go through this journey and make significant progress. This stage in the lives of the two fighters is coming to an end, but another one is beginning, full of new heights and victories. So, let us review how the last days of rehabilitation went.

The men were undergoing physiotherapy and training. They wanted to be in shape, as they had already been informed that they would go home soon.

14.02
After the daily training and rehabilitation exercises, the physiotherapists arranged a surprise for the heroes — a short trip to Valletta (the capital of Malta). The men joked that the physiotherapists "decided to test them on the terrain". After all, Valletta has a very rough landscape, steep descents, and ascents.

15.02
The final sessions with the prosthetists, rehabilitation therapists, and physiotherapists were held. They instructed the men on how they can adjust their prostheses on their own and what exercises they need to do at home. The farewell was warm.

Andriy and Vitaliy flew from Malta to Warsaw. On this day, Andriy's little dream came true: together with his comrade, he attended an FC Shakhtar match.

The men finally returned home to Ukraine. 

As a reminder, Future for Ukraine and the MCOP International Prosthetics Clinic (MCOPi) have created the Operation Renew Prosthetics program. The program provides Ukrainian soldiers with amputated limbs with high-quality prosthetics and assistance in their rehabilitation period.
