Video. The story of Olga Shanina, a talented teacher from the city of Kurakhove

21.07.2022

Yulia Bocharova, the daughter of the injured Ukrainian Shanina Olga, shared the tragic story of her parents in an interview with the FFU. The Foundation undertook to purchase the necessary implants for the patient – a plate for osteosynthesis of a fracture of the distal part of the left femur with a set of screws.

In peacetime, Olga was known as a talented and experienced educator and a Methodist kindergarten "Sonechko". For 40 years, she was engaged in her favorite business, wrote training manuals, and teachers came to her for training.

It is hard to remember Julia's father. He was only 68 years old at the time of his death. He didn’t want to retire completely and worked until the end additionally, teaching his students thermal energy and labor protection.

On April 6, Yulia's parents and their cats left their hometown of Kurakhove, approached by the Russian military. Neighboring Maryinka was destroyed by 90% at that time already. There was only one way to escape from the city, and the Shaninas risked leaving.

But only the mother was "lucky" to reach the Dnipro. And in serious condition. At the time when they finally approached one of the many roadblocks, a cluster mine exploded. Yulia's father had a heart attack. He died on the spot after pressing the gas pedal. The car drove into the fence of the checkpoint at speed.

The mother was saved only by the fact that she was sitting behind her father in the back seat. According to the daughter, the front part of her father's car was destroyed.
Olga Semenivna received complex injuries. The blow hit her chest, the woman suffered numerous injuries, and her knee, thigh, and jaw shattered. Primarily, doctors had to save the woman's heart because it could not stand it.

"Mom was in the intensive care unit in Dnipro for more than three weeks. And during the treatment, the jaw was restored, the arm, the leg folded... Her condition more or less stabilized after a month, around May 6," the victim's daughter recalls.

Then, her mother was transferred to a hospital in Uman, but there she started having seizures and breathing problems. Bronchoscopy showed tracheal stenosis. She was sent to Kyiv. Already in the capital, thoracic surgeons took care of the woman, performed an operation, and placed plates all at once.

Yulia Bocharova thanks God that her mother survived. It is a miracle that Olga Semenivna managed to survive - the car in which her parents were traveling was beyond repair.

Olga is currently in a hospital in Kyiv, where she has already undergone the necessary operation on her hand. The next stage of treatment will be an operation on the left hip — the installation of a plate for osteosynthesis of the fracture.

The victim's daughter dreams that her mother will recover and wants to return to a stable life again, go to Portugal and see her grandson for the first time, and return home to her native Donetsk when the war ends.

"She has never seen her grandson, my son. Just online with video. I want her to go to him so he can give her strength. I want her to have a zest for life. She can't see herself without her dad now, and her life is over now that she can't go back to her job. Sixty years is not the end," says Yulia.
