Oleksandr Chaika will receive a prosthesis in the USA

The Future for Ukraine Foundation is launching a prosthetics program abroad for Ukrainian military amputees. We sent Oleksandr Chaika to Washington first.

Oleksandr, 33, is a children's choreographer. After February 24, he went to defend the country from the invaders as part of the 24th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was hit by a tank shell near Popasna. Miraculously, Chaika survived, but due to gangrene, he had his right leg amputated. We told the story of Oleksandr earlier — at the link.

Future for Ukraine covers the costs of Sasha's flight, food, and accommodation until the rehabilitation process is completed.

The Medical Center for Orthotics and Prosthetics (MCOP) in Washington provides Chaika with a prosthesis and six weeks of rehabilitation free of charge. The founder of the clinic, Mike Corcoran, is an Olympian in rowing, so he completely understands Oleksandr's desire to get back to sports and full life as soon as possible.

Sasha and his wife are already in Washington under the care of Olena Nikolaienko, the Future for Ukraine strategy director.
