Being a source of support for one another reflects the strength of women’s solidarity that helps during difficult moments in life. Our GIDNA project was created for women, with their safety and sense of self-worth at its core.
That is why, alongside targeted psychological support for the project’s beneficiaries, we also carry out awareness activities aimed at creating a space of support, understanding, and acceptance for women in society, taking into account their traumatic experiences.
Anna Hrubaia, Head of the GIDNA project, held a meeting for women at the COAT space created by Kateryna Silchenko and shared practical tips on supporting oneself and one’s loved ones during wartime.
“Under stress, our brain shifts into survival mode. The fight-or-flight response is activated. This is the work of the amygdala — the part of the brain that first reacts to danger. At this moment, the activity of the prefrontal cortex is inhibited — meaning our ability to think logically, make decisions, and regulate emotions decreases,” explains Anna Hrubaia.
During the meeting, Anna described the nature of the body’s stress responses and shared practical advice on how to help oneself when feeling anxious or afraid, as well as how to stay composed when someone nearby needs support.
“We listened to one another, shared pain and fears, and step by step built our psychological first aid kit,” Anna adds.

Regular meetings for women at the COAT space are an initiative of the brand’s founder, Kateryna Silchenko, born from the desire to support her female clients and other women during blackouts and ongoing losses associated with the war. At these morning gatherings, women from various professions — stylists, creative industry professionals, doctors, nutritionists, psychologists, and others — share useful advice and experiences. In this way, a supportive women’s community is formed where participants can regain strength.
The COAT shared on Instagram that they have launched open morning gatherings to share warmth and support with women at the moments when it is needed most.
